Press Release

(Bensalem, PA) It was 20 years ago when Steve Vai joined forces with Ibanez to produce his ultimate weapon, the 7-string Universe, the first production 7-string solid-body electric guitar. The groundbreaking Universe was quickly recognized as the “Most Innovative Guitar of the Year” by music retailers at the 1990 Music and Sound Awards.

Originally designed as a virtuoso shred machine, the guitar would have a new life later in the ‘90s with its extended low-end range making possible the new breed of rhythmic metal of heavy music players such as Korn and Dino Cazares. Ibanez is proud to recognize Steve Vai’s achievement with the release of the new UV77RE Universe 20th Anniversary edition.

Like the original, the solid body UV77RE reissue is seven strings of fire, ready-made for maximum shred and some of the meanest riffing on the planet. The multi-color swirl motif arrives once again from the original Universe artist, Darren Johansen. Because of the swirl paint process each Universe guitar is uniquely individual in appearance. As with Ibanez’s other Limited Edition Reissues such as the famous Bob Weir model, all UV77RE models are crafted in Japan by the same luthiers who created the originals.

1990 not only brought the Ibanez Universe guitar to the world, it also debuted Steve Vai’s groundbreaking, earth shattering album, “Passion and Warfare”, and each U77RE comes with a commemorative poster of this sonic masterpiece.

Only 100 UV77RE reissues will be available worldwide.

Ibanez’ sleek S was a revolt against the traditional Mahogany guitars of its time that were usually heavy, bulky and uncomfortable. Obviously it was a successful revolt as the S is celebrating its 20th Anniversary with a wider selection of models than ever. Originally the S was designed as an all-around guitar. Now, however, the S finds its largest number of adherents among the practitioners of the more extreme forms of metal who appreciate the S for its unique combination of fat Mahogany tone and sustain with light weight and comfort.

Feature:
The best feature about this guitar is the ZR trem, doing dive bombs non stop with it for about 15 minutes and went back to check the tuning, amazing that it was still dead on.
Guitar is a 7-string electric with a body that’s thin around the sides for comfort and thick around the pickups for tone. The ZR tremolo bridge uses ball bearings for frictionless arming and fast return. The pickups are rocking Ibanez AH for 7-string humbuckers.

Quality:
Overall, not much wrong with it… but a noticed an overflow of glue around a few frets and some inlay markers. Nothing major, but it lacked some attention to detail you’d find on Japanese made Ibanez models and about this instrument is where the guitar cable plugs in, it’s kind of awkward especially when you go to unplug, and you almost have to yank the cable out by the wire and not the lead. The afraid it will be all scratched up eventually, but still the sound is incredible and it feels wonderful to play.

Sound:
Unfortunately, the sound isn’t that great, but this is due to the low quality pickups. I’m sure if you swap them out for some DiMarzio’s or Seymour Duncan’s this thing will scream. That said, the stock pickups will get the job done.

Value:
It was a good bang for the buck at 700$. A good value, but it lacks in the pickup department. But again, the ZR trem is definitely worth the price of admission. Check Latest Price.

Ease of Use:
Setup was pretty damn good from the factory, and it played very well. No fret buzz anywhere on the neck. The action maybe could have been a bit lower, but nothing a good tech couldn’t adjust.

Professional components.

Schecter’s BlackJack models are armed with the extremely versatile Seymour Duncan JB (SH-4) and 59 (SH-1n) pickup combinations, which can be tapped via a push/pull tone control or a 5-way Mega Switch. Additional features (usually found only on instruments costing twice as much) include a rock maple neck set into an arched mahogany body, Grover tuning machines, and a TonePros locking Tune-O-Matic Bridge, which greatly enhances the instruments natural sustain, and ensures rock-solid intonation and sonic clarity.

The BlackJack C-7 is a 26.5 in. extended scale, which when combined with stability of the TonePros, yields low-tuned tonal definition.

As with all Schechter Diamond Series guitars and basses, the Blackjack C-7 is backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Feature:
The pick up selected was a sweet thing about it and the 7 strings because gives you more to toy around with when just sitting around. The transition from six to seven strings is nearly instant. The strings stay in tune, no matter how much vibratos are used.

Quality:
Very nice wood was sweet the way they route red the top out is very vice 24 frets is also nice to have get more out of a guitar that way. It stays in tune, the pickups are well balanced, and it looks great and the full, clear tone it produces. Works great, never had a problem with anything on the guitar working or sounding great.

The grover tuners are smooth and accurate, the tone pros bride and string thru body makes the whole guitar vibrate with resonance, and the 26.5″ scale length makes the seventh string sound absolutely evil. If you play metal, and need a seven-string guitar, this should definitely be one you look at.

Sound:
Very good it has a lot of different sounds to fit with individual needs and yours to. It is got a good natural tone from its body but its electronics just don’t catch all of that tone. Played a lot of 7 Strings and the sound you get out of this Guitar is amazing. After soldered the pick ups in the right way they did work and gave sound. The sound is ok. The quality of the guitar is not the best. The right beginners’ guitar!

Ease of Use:
Plug and Play – The amp works properly. It is very easy to play and the sound selection easy to use and you don’t have to sit down and read the manual even though it is a very good idea to.

Value:
Price is ok, beginner’s guitar. The guitar is worth the money you pay for it. Great value! It’s hard to find a 7-string with good sound and this one has it. $650 isn’t very much to spend to be fully satisfied with your guitar. Check Latest Price.

Desirability:
It looks good. It fits our image as a band. it is very appealing to me it was. The jet black was awesome needs some more colors though. The action is smooth and fast. If you want to get a seven string guitar that low on price, but still satisfies your seven string quench, get this one. Otherwise, if you have the money, get the Ibanez UV777.

Basswood body. Five-piece maple/wenge neck. DiMarzio pickups. Edge Pro 7 bridge.

The debut of the Steve Vai’s JEM in 1987 and the introduction of his Universe 7-string changed everything. It’s impossible to think of any one person who has done more for the evolution of Ibanez guitars than Steve Vai. The contoured basswood body with 24-fret Prestige JEM neck provides easy access to all registers. The deep routed tremolo cavity allows pitches to be lowered or raised. Vai’s choice of specific DiMarzio pickups, combined with Ibanez Split-5 wiring, provide incredible tonal versatility. Steve Vai’s Universe — the guitar that ignited the 7-string revolution — allows almost effortless transition from 6- to 7-string techniques.

Feature:
Includes all the tools you’ll need to change strings, adjust action, and setup. Whammy bar is included, and is very easy to just snap in, and doesn’t come loose. However, recently, Ibanez has had some defective volume pots, which freeze up and refuse to turn. The guitar is made out of a Basswood body, 5 piece maple/winged neck, features the Edge Pro Bridge, and the DiMarzio blaze pickups. Fretted without large frets (Not jumbo.)

Quality:
This is a very awesome guitar. Probably the best 7 string on the market. The majority of good 7-strings have come from Ibanez, and this is no exception. Without splurging money for the top of the line, this is one of the best you can get. Anyone that thinks this guitar is a piece of junk clearly has his head to far up his ass to really see how wonderful an instrument it is.

The sound is incredibly good with just the stock hardware. The bottom end isn’t muddied out even when down-tuned to A, and the bridge crunch is still heavy. The neck position through a clean channel is also surprisingly beautiful and not too thick.

Value:
This is a great guitar if you aren’t looking to spend $1500+ on a signature or custom made 7-string, and still get a great value and sound. This thing is also a work of art. The binding, disappearing pyramid inlays, and the all seeing eye below the bridge are a sight to behold, and give the guitar a mystical appearance. You can tell this guitar was built with the intention to stand the test of time. Check Latest Price.

Sound:
It sounds really great. Dimarzio pickups are awesome. They give off a really good sound for any style of music, and not to muddy or anything.

The Blazes in this guitar are very tight, and back off the midst. Great clean sounds on position 4 with the coil splitting in the neck humbucker. This guitar sounds HUGE. It’ll add more depth to all the six string stuff you already do. The DiMarzio Blaze pickups are GREAT. IMO, they are the best 7 string pickups. Running through amp, it gets the tone who looking for. The sustain is great.

Ease of use:
This guitar has a very smooth on finished neck (very fast), and a comfortable feel at the bridge. Rest that palm with any pitch warbling like many floating bridges can do. Ibanez put a lower bass line on guitar and allows you to play in the lower chord (based on 6-strings ordinary guitars). Pretty great stuff!

Variety of sounds at your fingertips with a HSH pickup configuration, and 5 way toggle. If you are coming from a six to a seven, the transition is very easy with this guitar.

Desirability:
This guitar is the sexiest thing ever. The cosmetics are outstanding on it, and will leave you Gassing for one the minute you see it. Beautiful guitar, but the pearl and stuff just drives the price up. You really don’t need all that stuff.

Overall:
With out all that pearl and stuff it’s still an amazing, beautiful looking and sounding guitar. Extremely satisfied with all universes. They all play great and are worth their weight in gold.

UV Prestige neck

Since 1987, the Ibanez RG has been the weapon of choice for visiting sonic mayhem on the metal masses. With the right choice of pickups, flat and fast necks and double-locking trems, the RG has divebombed and crunched its way to classic status. To the RG’s lethal combination of features, RG Prestige models add the comfortable, rounded feel of Prestige neck finishing, drop-dead good looks and top-shelf electronics and hardware.

Feature:
The guitar to use as an introduction to the 7-string family. 5-way pick up switch, tone and volume knobs, so you can get a good variety of sound out of it you could do the work yourself in about 20 min.. It stays in tune pretty good. No tremolo but if you wanted that get a different version be nice if Ibanez put a coil tap on the front pickup for some in and out of phase switching, it has four leads out of it.

Quality:
This guitar is of similar quality to the much more expensive RG1570. Very sturdy, when dropped it on desks, floors…everything. don’t even have a scratch on it yet. Stays in tune really well also. If you are looking to travel with it, there are no worries. It takes a beating and keeps on playing like butter. Built like a rock and doesn’t lose tone. Say its lacking a tremolo as its not suppose to have one. This is how they keep it in the lower price range. A lot of people can say that the B string is muddy, but either a new pickup or a good amp could easily fix that.

Sound:
The stock pickups sound are powerful but very muddy. No matter it will get a set of Dimarzio’s soon. Stock pickups aren’t too bad. Giving crunch to the low B, and still giving plenty of bright sound for leads. Great guitar to use as an introduction to the 7-string family. Different pick up switch settings but you can think the bridge position sounds best.
Ease of Use:
Pickups are nice and sensitive. Easy to get great sound form the guitar. Switching out pickups for some dimarzios or something is very easy. It was very easy to switch from 6 string to 7 string. Very playable for beginners as well.

Simplicity is sometimes the best route to take. There’s not a lot to screw up, it’s very user friendly. Plug and play would be a good term. The 24-fret neck plays very easily great action, and unlike some other 7 strings I’ve played with, it’s not hard to reach your hand around. String spacing is nice. No need to change an amp settings or anything.

Value:
Decent guitar for the price. Hands down the best value for a 7-string out there. It’s an extremely good value, especially if you can talk down the retailer. The price it’s set at is about perfect. It keeps some money in your pocket for upgrades and still gives you the luxury of a 7 string. Check Latest Price.

Desirability:
It’s got a sleek black finish and it’s a guitar with a long neck as well Chicks will be all over it. ‘Sexy.’ with horns of the guitar it makes it perfect to play it on stage.

Overall:
This is a wonderful product, very worth the price; in fact, it may be considered a steal. This thing is built like a rock. Great value for a name, brand, and high quality guitar.
Overall this guitar is awesome. The neck is thin, fast, and well balanced!! It comes with some cool features even though it’s just a basic model, and it can easily fit in anyone’s budget!!! Thanks Ibanez.

Feature:
The guitar comes with the (edge pro 7) knock off of the Floyd Rose its a very good term and once you get use to it, it is a very big part of your everyday use. Only compare with a zr7.

The only small complaint is that the cut out for the 24th fret is a hair short so if you have longer fingers your in luck. The wizard neck is so comfortable and fast it almost plays itself. Almost no problems making the jump from 6 string to 7 string and now. The pickups are really nice and there are no dead spots on the neck. The term is as good. Well, actually better than the old edge trems that I’m so used to.

Of the included accessories, it was interesting to note that the whammy bar isn’t the screw-on type, but rather then push-in / pull-out style.

Quality:
The color is the only complaint but it isn’t bright like the pictures. Its more toned and could be mistaken for black. It’s a very sturdy guitar very reliable. It sounds just as good in the studio as it does on stage. This guitar should last a good 10 to 15 years. These guitars are very well built, especially the Prestige lines.

Sound:
Its really good if your into metal progressive rock and its also good for most hard rock its a perfect guitar when u have like a fender which u can use for the different type of music. This instrument is versatile as well as powerful you can use it for just about anything. Just by backing off the volume knob or tone knob, you can clean this up even with high gain settings and get nice strat tones or completely clean it up and the low b almost has a piano like tone to it. You will really impressed.

Ease of Use:
The sound pretty much sounds amazing right when you plug it in, the IBZ pickups are not match for Emg 707’s but they hit perfection when putting these pickups with this wood. Its rather easy to modify this guitar. Its really easy to use the guitar, has a very fast neck amazing body. The manual is very useful the only learning curve is the seventh string but you should get use to that if you just practice.

It’s your standard 5-switch, 2-knob, 2-pickup Ibanez with 24 frets. Once you stop trying to wear it like a hat, it’s pretty easy to figure out what to do with it. The neck is extremely comfortable and fast and the trem never knocks it out of tune.

Value:
This is the best 7 have ever played, it is worth every penny. Its pretty much worth every cent. Check Latest Price.

Desirability:
It looks awesome as u can see diff colors would be good.

Overall:
Try it out…if u even like it slightly at first just get it…the instrument will grow on you.
This instrument is satisfied for a very long time. Only dislike the color but if you think about it, You’re not buying the color your buying quality and sound.

The Viper-407 takes ESP’s hugely-popular double-cutaway model and makes it available in a 7-string version. The mahogany-bodied guitar offers an Earvana compensated nut as standard equipment, as well as white binding on the black satin neck and headstock..

Feature:
For a mahogany body, this guitar is fairly light. It is very easy to play. This is a comfortable guitar. The only thing is when you play with a strap on it the first fret are a little far away compared to other guitars.

Quality:
Would have liked it to be a string-through body, but it does fine for the heavy playing that you like to do. Just be careful with it, the paint on the body easily comes off if rubbed up against a hard surface.

Sound:
This guitar works better with heavy distortion, just playing off of the amp doesn’t sound very well. Recommended to you a heavy metal distortion pedal. The guitar was mainly designed for lows and rhythm playing techniques, if you are a lead guitarist, the lower strings will easily drown you out.

Value:
Great price for the guitar, from a dealer for $750. Its a really good value, it came brand new with a lot (really a lot) of protections in the box to prevent scratch. Its the best 7 string you could get without paying 2000 bucks. Check Latest Price.

Easy of Use:
Easy to use, not really hard to go from a 6 strings guitar to this 7 strings. Easy to play with higher frets.
